Project Description
Coastal Wolf Construction acted as Prime Contractor for the full replacement of the Willow Road public stairway in Alert Bay, BC. The project involved demolition of the existing deteriorated stair structure and installation of a new cast-in-place reinforced concrete stair system including landings, handrails, bike rails, and integrated lighting.
Scope of work included:
• Demolition and disposal of existing stair infrastructure
• Deep excavation and subgrade preparation with geotechnical coordination
• Installation of new 200mm sanitary sewer and 200mm storm sewer infrastructure with tie-ins to existing municipal systems
• Trench shoring, bedding, compaction testing, and MMCD-compliant backfill
• Construction of reinforced concrete stairs and landings (35 MPa concrete, 15M reinforcing steel)
• Installation of galvanized steel handrails and bike rails
• Installation of underground electrical conduit and three new 4m pole-mounted luminaires
• Asphalt restoration, crosswalk reinstatement, and final grading
The project required coordination with municipal authorities, geotechnical consultants, and electrical subcontractors in a remote coastal community setting. Work was completed in compliance with MMCD specifications, CSA standards, BC Building Code requirements, and Village of Alert Bay standards.
The project demonstrates Coastal Wolf Construction’s capability in civil infrastructure, reinforced concrete structures, underground utilities, public safety works, and coordination within Indigenous community environments.
